Snipping Tool/Screenshot![]() |
| Depending on your device, you will take either snips or screenshots and have different ways of doing so! |
Depending on your computer system, you can either use the snipping tool to create snips (PC users) or take screenshots (Mac, Chromebook, iPad users) to quick and easily create an image of either a portion, or what is up on your entire screen.
This fantastic, already built-in function will be useful for:
- Saving amazing graphics that you find from anywhere to later add to your lessons, handouts or tests
Many times as teachers, we come across fantastic graphics on our computers and would love to use it in a lesson, handout or test. Use this snipping/screenshot tool to help get the graphic from your computer screen into whatever type of document you desire.
- Having your students grab awesome graphics to add to their own assignments for the same reason as above!
- Providing students with a visual of websites/parts of websites you want them directed to.
In order to direct students to a website, portion of text on a website, etc., (as students navigate to it on their own device, or take notes by paper or electronic means, etc.) you could take a snip/screenshot of the website that you want students to go to, and highlight or make jot notes directly onto the snip/screenshot.
Once you have this snip/screenshot saved as an image, share it with your class via whatever means you would usually. That may include projecting it to your class using an LCD projector, keeping it up on your computer and projecting it via your classroom SMART board, pasting it into an assignments' directions on your Google Classroom, or adding it it to instructions on your class website. This is a great visual reminder for student of where to go/what to do. It is also great to share with students who were absent.
I also located an awesome, short clip explaining the how-to's on taking snip if you are a Chromebook user!
Lastly, here is an additional video explaining the how-to's of taking screenshots if you are a Mac user.
*Note: you can set various exporting options for where the screenshots go once they are taken; including, being sent to your desktop (shown in the video), exporting directly to Google Drive, Dropbox, and more.
